Hey guys and gals!


With this blog entry I would like to introduce a new old project: our regular news article with information all around the topic of photomanipulation is back! :eager: I'll call it the 

CRPM News Network

(fancy, huh?)


It shall contain everything you need to know about the photomanipulation scene: where to get stocks or find tutorials, the newest contests calling for photomanip entries, latest art features and interviews, a list of active groups for promoting your art... and all other stuff you can possibly think of! :eyepopping: 

And to make it work, we will need your help, too. So please let us know whenever you find cool stuff to be included in this article, e.g., if you have an awesome contest or a new group you would like to be featured. :handshake:  We plan to have useful information in the form of short lists easily accessible on our group frontpage of CRPhotomanipulation (such as currently running contests) and will post regular summary news articles in our blog. :-)

Our first article has been assembled with the great help of Gejda, Lolita-Artz, Aeirmid, and ED-Creations. Thank you! For this article we have compiled a few comprehensive lists that will guide you on your path through the photomanip maze: stocksites, photomanip groups, and currently running contests.

  • Have you heard? Aeirmid has stepped down after 3 long years of serving deviantart and most importantly the photomanipulation community as one of the most committed community volunteers. Please join me in thanking her for all her hard work.

Examples of good stock sites


Please note that this list is meant to give an overview of available stock sites that we would recommend to use, but it is in no way meant to be complete, and we do not take responsibility for the legitimacy of every photo uploaded on these websites. We recommend that you check the rules of every stock photo you download there and the specific Terms of Use (ToU) of the website.
The following list is divided into several subsections, paid and free stocks, and attribution required or not required.
What does attribution mean exactly? It basically says that you're obliged to credit the stock provider whenever you use their stock in your work.

Halloween is behind us, and here comes November - a month of falling leaves, cold temperatures and dark, rainy evenings perfect for curling up with a cup of tea and a book, preferably under a warm blanket. :leaf: This brings me to this month's theme - Rain. 
Be it fantasy, emotional, dark or surreal - this month's challenge entries have to be at least a tiny bit rainy. :rain: 
Don't forget to credit all stock used and use only legitimate stock!

So, for as long as I can remember I've had access to the most incredible range of books, from novels, tall tales and everything in between; all of those I've read (and I'm sure you all agree) it's most frequently their covers you immediately think of when you hear their titles.  It goes without saying that a picture tells a thousands words, and cover art, for that specific reason has to grab the reader by the eyeballs and hold their attention right through to the very last page in a yummy, captivating smorgasbord of plot teasers, incredible characters and dreamy (or dystopian) landscapes. Essentially, book cover p0rn :D
Visiting bookshops used to be as much about the cover art as it was about the text on the pages, which is why these days seeing the dozens of dreary, completely plain covers which do absolutely NOTHING to sell the book leaves me a little cold.  Further I just can't understand why publishers are going in this direction. :shrug:

A Special Christmas Present CONTEST!
I have a son who is now 28. He lives alone and has both Autism and Schizophrenia. He is both sad, lonely, and is forced to live a very isolated life. No one really understands the pain of being mentally ill and not able to fit in with society and even other people in general, unless you, yourself are, have a direct connection or relationship with someone that carries this themselves. Remember those who are alone for various reason or who have a hard time getting through the holidays each year for various reasons as you create and during the coming holiday season. Bless you!
10 years ago, when we were able to still live together, he dabbled for hours creating his various sketchings. He doesn't draw any more and I found a few of them that I held onto over the years and would like to help make his imagination come alive and make this Christmas special for him. "Victorian Holiday" (in case you couldn't quite read the title ;)
It's THAT time of year again for many of us in the Castle. Leaves are off the trees, the scenery becomes stark blacks, grays and whites. Many celebrate Christmas, Chanukah and the changing of the season. It seems a grand time for getting out our models in Victorian and/or Steampunk costumes, don't you think? So, this challenge will be about TWO things: Victorian/Steampunk imagery and models. AND, a wintry scene or "vibe." Easy, yes? Details below:
Hello Artists of the Castle...
:bulletred: The requirement for this challenge will be to show us a manip that includes at least one model wearing either Victorian or Steampunk clothing. If you choose Victorian you are not limited to "wealthy" looking people. Dickens' shared many characters who were NOT wealthy in his book "A Christmas Carol." You MAY use a 3D image, but consider that the more artistic effort that goes into your artwork-the more like (20th) Winter Wonders ChallengeGreetings Artists of the Castle..

Many celebrate Christmas, Chanukah and the changing of the season. This challenge will be all about creating art that invokes wonder, awe and magic in the season of Winter. (My apologies to those of you who are in the heat of Summer, etc. ;p)
:bulletred: The requirements for this challenge will be to show us art that includes at least one model AND surround her/him with elements and/or scenery that is in keeping with Winter/wonder. You MAY use a 3D image, but consider that the more artistic effort that goes into your artwork-the more likely you are to be a winner in the challenge.  The idea can be a design type of image OR a scenic one but it MUST be indicative of the Winter season. The model(s) should be the focus in either design or scenic.

This time the theme is:
"Santa's home":
Where does Santa live?
Does he live alone, or is he married and lives with his wife?
Maybe with his reindeers or christmas elves?
Does he live in a cozy cottage or in a modern villa?
How does he prepare for christmas eve?
How does he like to spend his free time?
Maybe he isn't the friendly old man we think he is?

Well, I haven't done a contest in a while, so it's about time :)  This one is going to be about using stock that has previously not been used!  This will g (20th) King Kong and I contest (closed)

Welcome to my second contest
3 years ago, I held my first contest Draw Tom Ripley Contest in 2012 with total 39,600 :points:  That event still makes me poor but very pleased until now. =P 
In 2015, I am quite lucky in art. I won lots of points from many contests throughout the year.
Now I'm ready to hold a contest again and share 12,900 :points: to other artists.

Yes, the theme of this contest is about King Kong and a woman.
I believe that almost all of you have seen King Kong movies at least once from 1933, 1976 or 2005 version.
 So, this event is like 10 year anniversary for the last time we saw King Kong.
