Unlimited Blade Works by ErikShoemaker Unlimited Blade Works by ErikShoemaker
I recently stumbled accross the fate/type-moon universe and got addicted really fast to the setting and the amazing characters in the series. Here's my depiction of a fictional battle between Archer and Gilgamesh inside Archer's 'reality marble': a magical world materialized inside reality with a special set of rules. In this world Archer has access to an unlimited amount of weapons to defeat his enemy, hence the name "Unlimited Blade Works" (which I find pretty awkward actually, but maybe it's just me).

I have been experimenting with volumetric light in all of my recent artworks, but I feel like it turned out quite cool in this one. I'm also happy with the perspective, although admittedly the composition might appear confusing because of it. I actually spent a lot of time placing each sword and cog carefully to lead the viewer through the scene. I hope you like it!

The stocks I used came from visualhunt.com and photobash.org. Here's a comparision with the original plate:

The realism that you put on your digital works of art is incredible. You can see how the bat battle took place in some desert in the United States (I'm not American). I love your work is amazing that touch of realism and fantasy at the same time you give your art with the fantasy of that boy-adult floating for what I think to fight with the other. And the boy on the floor using all the swords on the ground to save himself. Unlimited Swords Work to win the war. Once again your work is incredible I love it, keep it up

I keep waiting for the picture to move or pan in closer. It's great and has depth. The Lighting is spot on. The detail makes me feel that this you could move in any direction or zoom in. You did a great job on the depth. The detail is good. There's very little I can find with this picture. More in the series would be interesting to build a world of art of it. Some of the swords are a light odd but otherwise, I can't see how you improve much on this. You should be very proud of this piece.

There is a certain uniformity to the angle of the swords in the ground, combined with the skewed horizon, that gives the sensation of staring down a steep slope. I'm not sure if you wanted that since I don't know this series.

I could also nitpick some of the handle angles on the swords, or how the cow skull on the right side doesn't quite blend into the environment, but that's really just quibbling in the face of awesome. This is awesome, by the way.

Thanks a lot for the comment! The angle/slope is indeed intentional, I just think it makes the scene look much cooler and more dynamik. :) Actually, can you point out how the blending of the skull could be improved? After staring at my artworks for hours I fail to notice these details. Either way, thanks a lot again, and I'm glad you like it!

instant final fantasy vibes lol But no wonder cuz it's anime related and that stuff always has the same vibe everywhere. Amazing piece as always!
I love your stuff, for the reason that it looks so cinematographic.

Haha thanks a lot, I'm glad you like it! I really pushed the cinematic effects with this one actually. I have another version with movie frames and fake subtitles XD cdna.artstation.com/p/assets/i… I liked the clean version a bit better though.

experiments to develop "new" structures or visual stories are always fresh air and are my fav. because my brain turns on. It remids also something about Final fantasy. Personally i like the story-composition (they aren't confused) and the lighting. The mechanism and swords are really interesting and well done and i like also the perspective.

Personally i don't like 2 points:
1) the giant column of stone.....the reason is because the sky with mechanism is really cool and so the giant column distract at 80%.. choking also the scene....and in a work like this block the visual fluidity
2) the second point in my opinion is understimated here......im talking about the skeleton. I was imanining that more giant...for me it was a cool detail to add at least 50% of extra interest

Yeah someone else mentioned Final Fantasy, too. I didn't see the resemblence until now, but I've only played FFX so far.
I see what you mean about the column on the left. I personally think it makes the foreground more interesting and helps the perspective and depth. But I could test a version without it to see how it looks.
I think the skeleton looks cool enough to play a bigger a part, too. It's just that it doesn't actually belong there (it's not part of the original work). I only put it there because it looked cool and it underlined the ferocity of the scene.
