Celebrate 16 Years of DeviantArt
DeviantArt launched 16 years ago, providing a community of artists and art appreciators with a place to call home. Now, on August 7th, as we celebrate our Sweet Sixteen, we’re bringing a birthday celebration to our deviants around the world! From the comfort of your computer, help us celebrate the reason we’re all here today — our vibrant and inspirational community!
Standing at the cusp of Internet-adulthood, it’s always enjoyable to look back and embrace the carefree days of our artistic youth. This year, while adult coloring books are flying off the shelves nearly faster than fiction, what better way to unwind than celebrating with some coloring of your own? Using the Paint Bucket Tool in your favorite image-editing software, download our template and find inspiration and serenity in the swirling shapes. We Heart Photomanip
Edit: The group has a new founder now: KarinSPhotography picked it up!
Our sister group we-HEART-photomanip has been in a hiatus state for a while. The current owner Iskander1989 is giving it away now. Check the article if you are interested in getting this group running again! It would be shame to leave it like this!we-HEART-photomanip - Ownership giveawayI feel so bad that i've done NOTHING with this group since AbbeyMarie gave it to me. I'm no longer using DA as before, so i decided to give it away for someone that can make a better use of it.
If anyone wants it, please, lemme know.
Have a nice day everyone!Artist interviews
Three members of the photomanip community were interviewed this month: Equine artist Nikkayla, admin of The-Imaginarium Wesley-Souza, and DigitalSpotlight admin Dani-Owergoor. The last one also has a portuguese version!Member of the Month - Interview with Nikkayla :iconthe-imaginarium:
Every month we select one member to be exposed on the homepage of the group and we will do a special feature and a short interview.
Set of amazing photo manipulations and short interview by talented Nikkayla Green artist from Australia.
:iconnikkayla:
1. Can you give us a little insight as to what goes on in your mind when you create your pieces?
Where do your ideas stem from?
Ideas and my mind tend to not get along very well, but at times I get a picture of what I want and I try to first create the landscape – with the wide range of poses and being able to change the subject of the image around to however I need it to be, the landscape becomes the most important part of the creating process from me. If I don’t have any idea, I take images I like to look at and try to put them together. I rarely work from a sketch or a base, I simply let the images come together as I like to sArtists that inspire us - Wesley SouzaFirst of all, thank you very much for giving us the interview, we are very honored.
1.Arena PS: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself, where are you from? What do you do for a job?
Wesley Souza - Hello, I appreciate the invitation, thank you.
Well, I am from Manaus - AM, I'm 21 years old and I am in the area of Digital Art since about 6 years, over the years I have learned more about Photoshop, and a few years ago I started working freelance, doing art for some book covers, CD, etc.
This cover below was my first book cover to be published in physical form.
2. Arena PS: Regarding your works, can you tell us about your creative process.
Wesley Souza - I start looking for an idea, looking at the stocks that I had saved on my computer and some ''sketches” that I save on the computer not to forget some initial ideas that come to my mind.
3. Arena PS: What or who inspire you toArtists that inspire us - Daniela Owergoor Interview with DANIELA OWERGOOR :iconDani-Owergoor:
First of all, thank you very much for giving us the interview, we are very honored.
1. Arena PS: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself, where are you from? What do you do for a job?
DO - Well, as you know my name is Daniela Owergoor – many people think my name is "artistic" but it is real and comes from my husband whose origin is Dutch - I'm 38, I'm Paulistana, I worked four years in Japan and now I live in Porto Alegre since 10 years. I´ve been living in the world of digital art for 11 years now, I say "live" because I actually live it and live from it. I started playing with PS, manipulating my own and my friend´s photos just as a hobby. When in 2007 I met the world of true digital art, the world of "inventing and creating" I fell in love completely and what encouraged me were the Orkut contests, the DPB communities and the DP challenges. After I found other contests siBe a guiding light
This is for the seasoned manipulators among you and those who love sharing their secrets with others - a tutorial contest!Be A Guiding Light: Tutorial Contest! 2 days left!Contest Time!
Dear deviants,
projecteducate is launching a brand new contest for the month of August. The theme of this contest is tutorials.
Why tutorials?
A big part of our mission here at projecteducate is to help educate the DA community both with regards to art mediums and DeviantArt in general. Many of you have written incredible tutorials for us in the past. Tutorials are how most of us learn more about art nowadays. Tutorials help us improve ourselves, make our lives easier by finding shortcuts or little tricks, they help us refine our art and become the best artists we can be. Here on DeviantArt we also have an amazing Stock and Resources gallery, of which one of the sub-galleries is tutorials. Our stock CVs, Cassy-Blue and mercurycode do a fabulous job of highlighting some of the incredible tutorials available to you onsite. It truly is an art to create such resources for fellow artists! A very essential art.
What kind of tutorial?
The task is to write about something that is usually not discussed so often. I'm sure you creative minds can think of something; I only have to remember how well Manip Academy went this year.Stewed Tomatoes
We featured them before in our group highlight article series, but Stewed-Tomatoes is still a small, yet a highly active and engaging photomanip group with regular challenges and features! Check out their latest challenge that will awake the pirate in you!
:thumb622810082:Monthly Photomanip Challenges
Don't forget that our own monthly challenges are up and running again, too. The theme of this month is "Playing with fire" and you can win 3 months Core membership or points. We are looking forward to your entries!August Photomanip ChallengeAugust theme: Playing with Fire

Did you remember.... YOU STILL HAVE 5 DAYS!!!!
The New Millennium
The theme clearly calls for science fiction entries, but it can stand for many things:
What do you associate with the year 2000? If you are old enough, what expectations did you have of the new millennium when you were young? Do you have any specific childhood memories?
On the other hand, where do you see us and our Earth in the year 3000? Will our planet still be the same? Are we fighting yet another war? Will nature finally strike back? What technological advances can we expect?
So many possibilities that only depend on your apocalyptic vision!

Hi, everyone!
So, it's time for another photomanip contest!
The theme of this one is the zodiac. It is one often used; however, rather than just focusing on the star zodiac (Aries, Capricorn, Aquarius, etc.), I thought it would be interesting to incorporate other types of zodiacs. I have found pages that give information on some of the more well-known ones (however, you are welcome to dig as deep as you'd like and go further than the ones shown below):
Astrological zodiac: http://www.whats-your-sign.com/zodiac-signs-and-meanings.html
Chinese: http://www.whats-your-sign.com/Chinese-zodiac-signs.html
Celtic Tree: http://www.whats-your-sign.com/celtic-tree-astrology.html
Egyptian zodiac: http://www.astrologyoftheancients.com/egyptian-astrology/
You are welcome to incorporate more than one zodiac into your entry (in fact, you're encouraged to!).
For example, I'm an Aquarius, born in the YStocksites, tutorials and active photomanip groups
These handy lists can be found here for your convenience. If you want any of them to be updated, shoot us a note!Stock sites, tutorials and Photomanip groupsExamples of good stock sites
Please note that this list is meant to give an overview of available stock sites that we would recommend to use, but it is in no way meant to be complete, and we do not take responsibility for the legitimacy of every photo uploaded on these websites. We recommend that you check the rules of every stock photo you download there and the specific Terms of Use (ToU) of the website.
The following list is divided into several subsections, paid and free stocks, and attribution required or not required.***
What does attribution mean exactly? It basically says that you're obliged to credit the stock provider whenever you use their stock in your work.
