The short summary:
- I feature Daily Deviations (DD) only from the galleries of Photomanipulation (Digital Art > Photomanipulation) and Digital Mixed Media (Digital Art > Mixed Media)
- The deviation must have valid stock credits, and stock must be from legitimate sources (i.e., not Google).
- Make sure that the deviant hasn't already received a Daily Deviation within the past 6 months.
FAQ #313: How can I find out if someone already has a Daily Deviation?
How to suggest:
- Suggest one deviation per note
- Include a thumbnail of your suggestion
- A short reason for why you think it is worth a DD is great but not mandatory.
- Suggesting yourself is fine.
- For me, the most convenient way to suggest DDs is to use the "note" button next to the deviation as shown below. Whenever you come accross something awesome you simply click on "note", type my name and hit "send". Super easy!

DD descriptions, why they are importantDaily Deviations Week
Overview
The question on why it is important to include Daily Deviation descriptions have come up a lot over the years. For those unfamiliar with Daily Deviation descriptions they are the thoughts and feelings of a suggester, the featuring volunteer, or staff member regarding a Daily Deviation. For instance, the volunteer, staff member, or suggester may discuss the amazing detail or use of color in a particular piece.
The Importance of Daily Deviation Descriptions
It is important for Daily Deviations to include a description because they provide insight into why a particular art piece received a Daily Deviation. Also, it informs the Daily Deviation recipient on why they received a Daily Deviation for that particular piece.
Another reason why Daily Deviation descriptions are important is they help educate artists. For example, if a Daily Deviation is chosen for its exceptional composition artists are provided with a cor
What not to say when suggesting a DDAs CVs we get a tonne of suggestions for DDs, and with those come a variety of assertions as to why the piece should be featured as a DD. Some of these, particularly those that focus on things extrinsic to the art, really don't help get the art featured at all. In fact, sometimes the given reason can hinder the process instead. Here's a breakdown of the most common, unnecessary things we are told.
"The deviant worked really hard on this piece."
This is one of the most common extrinsic reasons I receive in DD suggestions, and the reason why it is so common is also the reason it is a bad one: it applies to just about everyone.
All artists who are even moderately serious about their work put a lot of time and effort into what they create. Those that seem to create difficult things with ease have put a lot of years of hard work into developing those skills. If we were to give DDs based on hard work, we'd have to DD almost every piece on the
The detailed requirements:
I won't just feature any deviation unless it meets certain criteria, that is
- Creativity
- This includes several things and is probably my most important criterion. The image needs to be more than just pretty and should distinguish itself from current or ongoing trends in some way or another. I have been lurking in the photomanip galleries for almost 10 years now and I have seen the beautiful girl in a forest/cemetery holding a lamp or a violin a few times too often. I want to support thinking outside the box and going out of your comfort zone. Hence, an elaborate concept conveying an interesting message would even make me overlook some technical issues, which leads me to my second criterion...
- Solid technique
- Any standards that are common in digital paintings in my opinion also apply to photomanipulations, meaning I value natural and realistic lighting, a well balanced composition and engaging color schemes. The different photos should form a coherent picture. All of this of course only applies if the artist didn't intend otherwise by creating an image in a specific style. That means I also value innovative techniques if done well.
- Proper credits
- I am bound by deviantart's rules to only feature artists who credit all of their resources properly. No direct links are required, but clickable links to the stock providers' pages should exist for all elements that were used in the manipulation. If own resources were used this should be stated in a short comment as well. Besides that you should
- Follow the stock provider's rules. For example, if the stock provider says not to use her children in horror-themed manipulations, don't do it!
- Use legitimate resources. Please make sure those cut-outs and premades come from photographs that the stock provider has taken him/herself or that he/she has permission to use in stock that can be redistributed. Most stock providers (both on pay-for sites and on dA) do NOT allow their stock to be redistributed. For more information
