We are of peace. Always. by ErikShoemaker We are of peace. Always. by ErikShoemaker
Matte Painting created for SlashTHREE: Quote/Unquote

This is a piece which was highly inspired by and built around the quote from the TV-show V2009, which unfortunately was cancelled. The show is famous for the treacherous words of V-commander Anna, who is trying to befriend and after that bear down the humans.

"We are of peace. Always"

So the story of this image is that an alien race has infiltrated the humans without their knowledge. The trees in some areas far from civilization were secretly corrupted in order to harvest the best dna of all organic life forms.

Thank you, actually I intended to create a dark scifi scene here. It's cool to see how differently people read images. :D

Such an fantastic scenery..Wonderful! :faint:

This is a truly awe-inspiring peace. The simplicity combined with the light patterns make it a very striking image, so its easy to relate to your source of inspiration. I've never seen V2009, but I know you've mentioned in other works that you played the Mass Effect games. I don't know if you've played ME3 or not (I'm hoping yes, to be honest), but if you have you'll understand what I mean when I say that this scene seems incredibly similar to the world after the 'neutral' option, to merge technology and humans.

Few bothered to think over what they heard, realize that they didn´t know what sort of peace she meant and that that there where no guarantees that it was a good thing.

In deception, say the rights words in your speeches, play with what your listeners want to hear and you will be believed at face value, even when the evidences, or even mere common sense is strongly against you.

you can use the filter->lensflare option, but of course you have to modify it with painting and additional effects to make it look half decent. :D Thank you!

spectacular. i've been wondering recently about a black top+bottom border and whether it contributes to a piece or not. i used to like it a lot. but i'm not so sure anymore. what do you think?

I used it here to emphasise the movie-feeling, but generally I'd say it is not really needed. I just thought it was kinda fitting in this case. Thanks for the compliment btw!

Very cool! Never saw the TV show, but the mood of this with the blue-green night saturation and odd glowing lights and details is VERY other-worldly, yet familiar because of the trees and Earth-like building in the background. Kind of disorienting - in a good way! The weird creature walking through the swamp doesn't help, either!

You could definitely set the scene as another planet by putting a couple of moons behind the trees, but that might conflict with the light source that's the focal point right now.

OR you could set it as Earth by putting some people in the scene - I can "see" some people (maybe 10 or 15) walking in a small group from the right of the big tree, past the tree (unseen) and a few on the other side, along the line of the light burst. They'd be small and mostly in shadow, somewhat backlit by the lightsource, but it would add a "story" element to the image. Why are they walking towards the light? What is it? Are they being called or going to their deaths?

There's no "story" right now - you just accept the scene as it is because you have no reference point. But a very compelling scene it is.

Just my 2 cents.

Hey, first of all I'm really sorry for the late reply. I very much appreciate your comment and constructive critique nontheless!
The scene is pretty much how I intended it to be, and actually it is set on Earth but distant from civilisation as the evil aliens work in cover. ;-) Thank you for your suggestions, though!
I admit the bright light is nothing more than a fancy scenery element here. :D

Hey, no biggie! I don't often make comments and even less often suggestions, but every now and then I see something unusually "evocative" and all sorts of ideas present themselves. Not necessarily good ideas, and certainly not suggesting any alterations to the existing art, just brainstorms for the next piece perhaps.

Great work! It's not often a piece will hit you like that and your imagination just takes off! Thanks for the short trip!
