Deus Ex Machina by ErikShoemaker Deus Ex Machina by ErikShoemaker
I haven't made a single classic space scene in 2011, even though I have my roots in space art. So here you go. ;-) The main motivation for this work was to practice angles and perspective and it took a lot longer than expected.

To complete this image I made use of several different techniques: While the station in the foreground is mainly painted with addition of a few textures ([link] and cgtextures.com), the resource for the people in it is stock photography ([link] [link] [link]). To render the planet and the spaceship the 3D functions of Photoshop came in handy. The ship model in the mid-planes is based on one of ~dmaland's renders ([link]) and edited with the usual addition of textures and effects. Thanks a lot!

Hey Erik first pretty nice work(s).
Why did you call this piece deus ex machina ? because it means the apparition of a god in a theater piece (old greece) to remain to all troubles.
Sorry for my English I'm French :)
Bye.

Hey, thank you!
I pictured it as some godly appearance as they are looking into a bright flashing light, which is outshining the huge planet. But I didn't give it very much thought, to be honest. I couldn't find a more meaningful title. ;)
Cheers
Erik
